Just got my life is a popular song in Simon's acoustic live sets. It was Paul's favourite (engineer and co producer) and has also been considered as a single.

Simon wrote Just got my life on a borrowed guitar while living in a hostel in London after several months backpacking round central and Eastern Europe. It explores the growth and transition reached through traveling. This is most clearly expressed in the third verse lyric:

Now that you’ve come to see me today
You’ll notice a different man to the one gone away.
You’ll say that it’s not how it was meant to be
But I tell you it was, I have listened to me.

This recording is a rough mix of the song rather than a final releasable mix but it does show the song's potential. It features Simon's vocal harmony arrangment in the middle eight section over an unusual chord progression.

Lyrics

Just got my life

So much for that; I have traveled at last.
Not a shiver in sight as I stand here on the grass.
Heaven higher than mine. I have seen it all through.
I could tell you of pain. I could see it in you.

So show me your anger and strife.
I don’t need anymore,
I’ve just got my life.

A caring road for soldier, all that anyone needs.
Cool water for bruises, a soft touch where it bleeds.
I have seen them fall under and not helped it at all.
Well I dealt with it my way when I took the fall.

So show me your anger and strife.
Crisp clean on today, my reason and why
I don’t need anything,
I’ve just got my life.

I’ve just got my life
See it for my sake
Hold it before you…

Now that you’ve come to see me today,
You’ll notice a different man to the one gone away.
You say that it’s not how it was meant to be,
But I tell you it was, I have listened to me.

So show me your anger and strife.
And I’ll see in the pinch of an eye
But I don’t see you in quite the same light
I don’t need anymore.
